If You Forget Me When I'm Gone

My idea of a country western tune. I performed all the parts.
An .mp3 download available here.

I'm not a man you ought to know with a name best left unspoke
All the years you spent on me disappear in dust and smoke
If we never truly were there'll be nothing left to grieve
All the laughter never shared best forgotten when I leave

If you forget me when I'm gone
There won't be hearts to mend or dreams to fill
All your lovers will be true all your bottles will stay full
If you forget me when I'm gone

I must have been a crazy fool to let a good thing slip away
I know I promised not to leave but you’ll be better off that way
Like a thousand times before I’ll pack my suitcase and be on my way
Just my sad songs and my old guitar that you’ll never have to hear me play

If you forget me when I'm gone
There won't be hearts to mend or dreams to fill
All your lovers will be true all your bottles will stay full
If you forget me when I'm gone

Like those letters stained with tears
Filled with hopes and dreams and fears
Faded yellow by the years
I will slowly disappear
If you forget me when I’m gone
